Help Free Lucy From Medical Debt!

Howdy! My name is Silas, but this isn't about me: today, I'm here raising funds for my beloved girlfriend, Lucy! We've been dating for a little under a year now, and along with our partner, Lazer, we are very happy together. Lucy lives with her roommate Bee and lovely little cat named Sports! (the exclamation mark is mandatory).

Last year, Lucy made some long standing dreams come true by getting bottom surgery! It was perfectly planned, she did such a good job of getting everything together, every appointment and bit of paperwork taken care of, the insurance was going to cover it and everything, but then -- tragedy struck: her work changed her insurance plan two months before surgery, and though everyone involved tried valiantly to get things covered, the insurance absolutely refused to cover it anymore because the doctor wasn't in network. Typical, huh?

Lucy ended up getting the surgery anyway, using all of her savings for the post-surgery period for the initial up front payment to get the surgery at all, and this fundraiser is for the bills that came after that, of which there are many. Hospital bills, nurse payments, physical therapy, you name it, all coming due at the same time. Lucy works retail and though makes enough to stay afloat normally, the mountain of bills is coming due and it's getting increasingly hard to ignore or pay them off slowly.

So that's where I come in! I've volunteered to run this fundraiser for her, with the money going straight to her, but me handling the logistics. We are looking to raise $20,000 USD to ensure that Lucy can pay back the people and companies she needs to pay back to escape medical debt for good! As much as I wish the power of love could overcome financial issues, it can't always, so that's why we're asking for help.

Speaking of logistics, here's a breakdown of what your money will be going to should you donate to Lucy (which I hope you will!). The $20,000 USD will be going to paying bills that are overdue, bills that are still coming, and bills that are yet to come (such as physical therapy, which is on-going). The hospital and surgery bills are the Big One, totaling around $17,000 -- the remaining $3,000 will be used for other miscellaneous bills, e.g. the formerly mentioned physical therapy, doctor visits, etc.
