Assist Fred Mbiydzenyuy to Recover

Update (18 January) - I am sorry to inform you that Fred has passed away. In my last conversation with him, he was moved that we have created this page and many friends have provided support. I have transferred the funds we raised to cover the medical and funeral expenses.

Wirkom Fred has been the Managing Director of Self Reliance Promoters NGO based in Kumbo, Cameroon since 1999 and is passionate about serving his community -- in particular, orphaned and vulnerable children. Over the last 20+ years, Fred has worked to provide education and opportunity for hundreds of individuals.
I had the pleasure of working with him as a US Peace Corps Volunteer from 2004-2005. (See more about Freds work here) He is a selfless and caring man who has dedicated himself to others. He now needs our help.
One year ago, he started complaining of epigastric pain radiating to the back. He consulted in different health facilities where he was managed for Gastritis and Peptic Ulcer Disease. Symptoms persisted and he later on developed progressing abdominal distention and was diagnosed with a stage 4 Metastatic Gastric Adenocarcinoma (Cancer of the Stomach).
The goal of this fundraising effort is to assist in Fred's transportation to and treatment at the King Hussein Cancer Center in Amman, Jordan. Additionally, it is intended to support his family and the weekly Palliative Chemotherapy (at a cost of 70 USD per dose) that he is receiving locally.
The ongoing crisis in Anglophone Cameroon has disrupted a regular salary and current treatment costs have eroded savings. This combination makes the possibility of further treatment intervention in Jordan unattainable without financial assistance.
