Hi all, my name is Kiran and I am helping to fundraise for my fellow climate change activist, Fousseny Traoré. I met him when looking for speakers from the global South on the impact of the climate emergency in their countries, for an event I am hosting and have gotten to know him and his amazing work over time in the process.

Fousseny is a brave and committed young man who has been a leader in the quest to mitigate the devastating effects of climate change in his home country, Mali. He helped those in poverty, including at the start of the COVID pandemic, and has helped gardeners and farmers. Fousseny has spoken many times on the situation facing his region and is the founding president for ecological citizens association for Mali, including a recent talk for Fridays for the Future.

Due to the desperate situation there and hopelessness that many people feel as their crops have failed, many farmers in Mali have been recruited by terrorist organisations. Rather than join them, Fousseny left and is now in Tunisia. He is desperate to get to the UK for the COP26 and advocate for his country and to help save it from further loss due to the climate emergency we all face. Fousseny has realised that he will need to claim asylum here and gather expenses for travel, but we do not have as much time on our side to raise the money as we would like for him to come here. He has not asked to be put in this precarious position, the same as any of us. However, we know that the climate emergency is causing untold havoc in the world, and will continue to do so for all of us unless we work together to change things however we can.
