Help for the Gloria Hagen Family (Closed)

Donation protected
As many of you know, my mom, Gloria Hagen, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017. After rounds of multiple surgeries, chemotherapy treatments, and radiation therapies, her cancer was in remission. So many of our dear friends and family supported us through this time, and Mom celebrated with a multi-state victory tour to visit some of her favorite places and many of her loved ones (including three adorable grandchildren). She also returned with great joy to her favorite hobbies--playing the piano, sewing, cooking, and volunteering to work with horses at a therapy farm for special needs children.

2020 has been a difficult year for most of the world, but our family was struck a particularly painful blow when the news came just a few months ago that mom's cancer had returned with a vengeance. She had been suffering some aches and pains which were considered normal for a cancer survivor, but when they persisted, a closer look revealed the cancer had not only returned, but had metastasized and spread to her lungs, brain, and spine.

She was given the choice to either pursue treatment or enter into hospice care. The oncologist informed us that treatment would mean another round of surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation, and would extend her life only another year or two at best. The first round of treatment in 2017 had been very difficult for her, and after taking everything into consideration, she chose to enter into hospice care. Doctors have given her a few months until she passes on.

Then, just as our family had barely begun to get to grips with the situation, Dad lost his job due to Covid-related layoffs. Fortunately, he has been allowed to continue with his former company's health insurance policy, but at a significantly higher premium of $870 a month. A full-time hospice nurse is also not covered, which means that Dad has had to take on the role himself and postpone his search for another job while he attends to Mom as her primary caregiver.

Myself and my siblings are stepping in to meet the needs to the best of our abilities, but we find our resources quickly taxed in the face of the high medical costs and loss of Dad's income. Two of us four sisters are even moving back home to provide immediate emotional and financial support. At this point, Mom needs 24/7 care. She spends most of the day in a hospital bed which has been placed in the living room, and she is now using an oxygen tank, a morphine pump, and has a host of medications for her palliative care. She continues to take strength through her faith in God, and through the love and support of her friends and family.

So many of you have been asking how you can help in this time of waiting. To that end we decided to create this fund, every cent of which will go towards paying Mom's medical costs and making up for the loss of Dad's income. We know this is a trying time for so many families all over the world, and we have already been so blessed and overwhelmed by the love and support so many of you have already shown us. We thank God for each and every one of you. We also know Mom will soon be at His side in Paradise, that this parting will only be temporary, and that this trial will be a far distant memory when we are all reunited again. May we all hold this hope in our hearts to take us through these difficult times, just as Mom does.

God bless you and thank you so much.
