Help for stray and disabled Ukrainian animals

Lena and Denis feed, rescue and care for many stray animals roaming the streets of Zhytomyr, Ukraine.

They have a small group called LAPA UA its mission is to help street animals with;

LAPA UA has been fundraising locally and paying out of pocket for all medical expenses and food including helping rehabilitating disabled , injured and animals suffering from malnutrition and parasitic infestation.

As the war continues, domestic animals are at an increased risk of being abandoned, particulalry when they are pregnant. Overpopulation is an extreme issue in Ukraine, due to a lack of animal control and rangers many locals will poison any stray cat or dog they see, causing cruel suffering. Lena and Denis have been working with local vets to actively seek out stray animals, feed them treat them medically and sterilise them (TNR) when they are healthy enough. From these strays a handful can be rehomed, the others are actively monitored and fed.

To reduce the risk of poisoning, infection and disease we are raising funds to support the stray animals that can live with humans and be put into temporary foster care. The aim will be to move them to forever homes eventually but to get them out of harm's way we are actively seeking foster home placement for a number of mother dogs and puppies. We are also collecting funds to continue feeding and caring for the feral dogs and cats who will not be able to live with humans but depend on us for their survival.

Example of a TNR dog (Trap, neuter and release). Simba is a female dog that is mother to many puppies in the area, unfortuntely she is too feral to live a regular home but she was treated medically, sterilised and is continuosuly monitoried by Lena and Denis.
