Help for Sezin’s Gnarly Elbow Reconstruction

Donation protected
Greetings my excellent friends,

From a carpal tunnel surgery gone awry in November 2023 to a terrible fall at home on Jan 14 2024 resulting in a brutal elbow fracture, I need help covering my medical bills and keeping myself insured.

My current elbow injury looks to keep me off work for the next 4 or so weeks, which is a nightmare for this writer who just wants to write, man. I’ll be having elbow surgery and pin reconstruction on January 24, 2024, and then a long road of healing ahead. The funds I’m raising here will help pay for these procedures as well as my monthly insurance payment while I get my hands fully operational again.

I am absolutely drowning in medical bills. I just got the surgery copay information and it’s $5000. This doesn’t include all the office visits, physiotherapy, and insurance I’ll need over the next 2+ months of treatment! And I can’t swim without use of my hands. Without surgery, the break is so severe I would regain less than 50% range of motion, and I’d quickly develop a host of side effects like bursitis, arthritis, and more which would quickly affect my hand and ability to write. This is a living nightmare.

I’m totally about to become one of those real-life American horror stories of a life destroyed by medical debt on account of a small accident at home. My elbow reconstruction took place on January 24, 2024 and below are X-rays of the hardware it took to put my break back together. Whoa, am I right? The pain has been an excruciation beyond comprehension, but I’m John Wicking my way through it to heal.

In case you don’t know me, I’m the author of the upcoming ‘Much Ado About Keanu: A Critical Reeves Theory’ coming from Chicago Review Press in September 2024. This is the first ever sociocultural deep dive into Mr Reeves  entire creative catalog, and it’s pretty amazing. I’m also the editor of the most bodacious essay anthology ‘Flowers Out of the Attic: Personal and Critical Perspectives on VC Andrews’ Dollanganger Saga,’ a book I was getting ready to shop around to agents at the time of my fall and broken elbow.

My other works in progress include ‘Bill & Ted University: The Social Sciences of Their Excellent Adventures,’ another righteous essay anthology exploring the smart behind the silly of the ‘Bill & Ted’ franchise. A sporror (mushroom horror) novel thats ‘The Last of Us’ meets ‘Banshees of Inisherin,’ inspired by Manuel Puig and Cormac McCarthy. A Florida gothic novel that’s ‘Cloud Atlas’ meets ‘Carnivàle,’ featuring little-known weird Florida history. As well as “White Devilry,” an in-depth media analysis examining whiteness and privilege across film and TV driven by James Baldwin and Terence Nance. And just for fun a horror study recontextualizing popular genre films/TV like ‘The Blair Witch Project,’ ‘Twin Peaks,’ and ‘Talk To Me’ as Fae horror. Not to mention hundreds of essays and short stories in the works.

I appreciate any help anyone can offer, especially since so many people are struggling right now. As a bonus if you donate more than $100, I will mention your name in the Much Ado About Keanu book acknowledgments (with your consent of course).

Times are tough all over and often a campaign share is as effective as a donation. If you’re not able to donate I would be so grateful if you could spread the word about my campaign.

Thank you in advance for helping save my health so I can get back to writing your future favorite books.

Yours faithfully in Keanu,
