Help for Ruka's TPLO surgery

Several weeks ago, while playing with her brother, Ruka injured herself. Not thinking it was anything more serious than a sprain, Jess took her to the amazing vets at Abegweit animal hospital where the news hit hard, it wasn’t good, a torn cruciate in her rear right leg. She would require TPLO surgery. A consultation with the surgeon at the AVC confirmed. Surgery would be between $4500- $5000.
Jess was devastated.
For those of your that know Jess, dogs are her life. For those of you that know Ruka, Jess is her world. Ruka is Jess’s project, hoping that someday she becomes a full-fledged service dog for her diabetic and epileptic needs. Ruka has already been trained to respond to anxiety attacks, to interrupt OCD ticks, and to raise Jess’s legs after a seizure. The last year has thrown a lot of hardships their way. Jess suffers with some severe complications from diabetes and gastroparesis and has spent a lot of time in the hospital or recovering at home. Though you may see her at the odd puppy class, Jess’s health has been too unstable for her to work regularly and recently had to move home with her dad to be able to afford her monthly medical bills.
Jess has always been a dog advocate, lover, rescuer. Many dogs found refuge with her, before finding their way to their new forever homes, many still in her life today. She would often spread herself thin with time, money and space, never asking for donations for rescue dogs or vet visits and often rehoming dogs and waiving any adoption fee or vetting costs. “Because I can” was her favorite answer.
Here to ask the community to help one of their own get her dog the surgery she desperately needs to live a happy and pain-free life.
