Help Kristie with Unexpected Medical Expenses

Donation protected
On February 22, 2021 my 27 year old daughter Kristie received unexpected and terrifying news that flipped her world (and ours) upside down in an instant. She has been diagnosed with Ovarian Neoplasm (Possible ovarian cancer). She had been going to her OB/GYN for over 2 years complaining of constant bloating and pain in her right lower abdomen. After finally scheduling an ultrasound on 2/12/21, the Doctor found a large mass growing on her right ovary. A CT scan was scheduled for 2/21/21 which confirmed that she has a 6cm ovarian tumor with a large amount of fluid surrounding it up to her kidney and liver. Her lab work also confirmed that there were “tumor markers” in her blood. She was immediately referred to Texas Oncology for a consultation, in which the Oncologist told her that they are going to have to take her right ovary and fallopian tube, and possibly give her a full hysterectomy. As you can imagine, Kristie’s fear and anxiety were through the roof over this devastating news. Through what I consider to be a small miracle, the Oncologist was able to get her scheduled for surgery this Wednesday, March 3rd.

Kristie is very blessed to have health insurance but her out of pocket expenses are still very high and she has already had to deplete everything in her savings to pay for the labs, scans and upcoming surgery. Kristie is going to be out of work for 6-8 weeks. She has a little bit of PTO that she will be using and has FMLA through her job but it is unpaid time off. With no savings left, having to be out of work for almost 2 months and still having bills that have to be paid, she is extremely stressed  about how she is going to get by. On top of everything, we will not know until she is out of surgery whether they had to only take the one ovary and fallopian tube or if they had to do a bilateral oophorectomy (both ovaries and fallopian tubes) and total hysterectomy if cancer is present. Due to the many variables in play, she could have to have hormone replacement therapy or even chemo. Her ongoing medical costs could become extremely expensive. Depending on the outcome, there’s a very good possibility that she may not ever be able to have children, and will go through menopause at only 27 years old.

I’m asking for help on behalf of my daughter because I know that she is going to be struggling financially over this for a very long time. If you can help in any way, we will be forever grateful.
