Help for Hazel Healing

Donation protected

Please help. There is a new and urgent need.

Your contributions truly are keeping Hazel alive.  As of April 29, 2018, Hazel's in-home care has cost $4,972.22 That's cheap in the world of medical bills, and it's money well-spent -- for house calls, home blood draws, lab work, and medicines not covered by insurance -- as her doctor is finding and treating what's making her so sick.

So what's new and urgent? On top of that special care, Hazel now needs to be moved to a mold-free house, and most of her belongings replaced -- bed, linens, clothing, furniture and cooking utensils, computer, microwave -- anything with a fan, and anything not made of metal, glass, ceramic, or hard plastic.

It costs a lot to move, and with replacing everything, the effect of mold is nearly the same as wildfire.

When Hazel goes out she needs a reclining wheelchair:

Hazel has been bedridden for over two years and couldn't get a doctor to make house calls, so she just got sicker and sicker. Your contributions are helping pay for specialized medical care and treatments that were denied to her because she was too sick to go out.

Now she'll have to go out, to be moved, but then she'll be months recovering. Or, maybe the move alone will make her a whole lot more well.

The last time she went out just for fun, was a drive to the beach, in 2014. She was too weak to dip a toe in the ocean, but managed to sit on the sand a few minutes and enjoy the beauty of the place.

She can’t dance, hike, paddle a kayak, work in the garden, hang out with friends, or do any of the things she used to enjoy—and the last time she could, she was just a kid.

Now, it’s hard to watch a video or read a book. She can still eat, but only soft things, and even then, chewing is painful. She can get out of bed and go to the bathroom, but if she's up for more than a few minutes she gets dizzy and sometimes faints. She can’t cook or clean, shop or do laundry—so she has to live with her mom.

And her mom is disabled. That's me. I haven't been able to work in years, and we have no family that can support us, so it’s just the two of us trying to cope, living below poverty level.

Most sounds hurt our ears. Light hurts our eyes. Laughing hurts Hazel's jaw. Thinking hurts her head—yes, it seems like everything hurts.

Hazel's autistic and has PTSD, and has also been diagnosed with Orthostatic Hypotension, Fibromyalgia, Severe Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, severe dental pain, various bacterial and viral infections, and the thing that hurts so bad they call it “The Suicide Disease,” Trigeminal Neuralgia.

The last time she was out of the house, was for this blood draw.

There are scarcely any health care providers who make house calls. Very few of those accept Medicaid. And of those few, none really understand how to treat the complex array of disorders and dysfunctions that are torturing her constantly.

Finally, we found a Naturopathic Doctor who has been working for years with patients like Hazel. But her protocol for care costs an estimated $13,246.00 per month.

Treatment Protocol Cost Estimate

$13,246.00 per month.

That’s more money than Hazel receives on disability in an entire year.

But we worked it out with the doctor that she can get some benefit, gradually, from a far less intensive regimen of in-home visits and treatments. $1879 per month (still twice your total monthly income) would be enough, if we can raise the funds. Three months would cost $5637,  the amount we set for this fundraiser.

And now the testing done so far has revealed that much of Hazel's illness is due to mold toxicity. There are millions of people in this country alone, sick from exposure to mold. Not everyone is bothered by mold at all, but to some, it's highly toxic.

The extent of repairs needed at her current home, to remediate the mold, is more than the landlords are willing to do. So we have to move Hazel out to a non-toxic home. Plus we have to get rid of most of our belongings and replace the essentials.

We don't need fancy stuff but we do need new stuff. We can't shop at thrift stores because anything used might also be saturated with mold spores.

Please, help Hazel make it to her new home, pay rent deposits, buy essentials, and continue in-home medical care. Anything you can give, whether it’s $7 or $777, will help her survive. Please share what you can, and please invite others to help, too.

Hazel is isolated and in constant, terrible pain, but she doesn’t have to be alone. We can get together and help Hazel toward health. There's a chance the move will result in a dramatic improvement for us both.

Please, see "Updates" tab for more information.  And if you prefer paypal, you can use that to the address, [email redacted]; or else email that address to receive information on how to make a direct deposit to Hazel's ABLE account.

Thank you for caring!
