Help for Gladys Mejia

Our dear friend Gladys Mejia is in need.
Gladys has cleaned the homes and cared for the children of dozens of Topanga and LA-area families for nearly forty years. Despite her own health issues and difficult circumstances, anyone will tell you that she is endlessly hard-working, gracious, and the very definition of selfless.
Unfortunately, on Saturday morning we learned that Gladys’s son was a victim of the deadly June 3rd eruption of the Fuego volcano in Guatemala. While working, he was buried under scalding ash and toxic gases. Miraculously, after five days he was found alive. He is severely burned and in critical condition at the local hospital in Guatemala.
At the moment, Gladys is struggling to pay for her son’s pain medication and emergency medical care. The hospital has few resources and cannot continue to administer the critical treatment her son needs until she can pay.
We have pooled what we can for Gladys, but unfortunately it is not enough, so we are creating this fund with the hope that we can help Gladys meet her family’s most urgent needs. Donations of any amount will be a blessing to Gladys and help her family to survive this excruciating time.
The funds will be prioritized to pay for her son’s medical care and his children’s most pressing needs. Anything raised beyond that would allow Gladys to travel to Guatemala to see her son.
Gladys journeys up to two hours each way by bus for work, six to seven days per week. She has never enjoyed a single luxury. Aside from what is required to cover her most basic needs, she uses everything she earns to support her mother, son, daughter, and grandchildren in Guatemala. This is a devastating tragedy for Gladys, who has dedicated her life to supporting her family from afar and caring for others. Anything you are able to give – money, prayers, support – is extremely appreciated and will show Gladys that she and her family matter.

2. Ms. Gladys Mejia has worked as a weekly housekeeper for my family in Topanga, CA for about 20 years. We consider her a close friend.
3. The funds will benefit Ms. Gladys Mejia. The money will help to pay for Gladys's son's medical treatment. They may also be used to help cover his family's urgent needs as he is in critical condition and not able to work. Additional funding may be used to pay for Gladys to travel to Guatemala to see her son.
4. Because Gladys does not have a bank account, I will deposit the funds into my personal bank account. As soon as the funds appear in my account, I will withdraw them and bring them to Gladys in Los Angeles immediately.
