Help For Friend In Need

Donation protected
My wife and I are asking for help for our friend. He has fallen on hard times and could use a hand-up. Until approximately 18-months ago he lived with and cared for his elderly father. Everything was fine until his father passed away.

The house they lived in was paid for out of his father's social security. While our friend is gainfully employed (at the same job for almost 5-years) he was never able to work fulltime because he was caring for his father. Additionally, his father had no savings to speak of due to the extended illness of our friend's mother.

When the home he lived in for over 30-years was foreclosed on, he rented a room from a friend. Unfortunately, the house they were renting was sold and now he has nowhere to go. He’s been couch-surfing for a while and has recently begun sleeping in his car.

As if all of this wasn't difficult enough, our friend also lives with epilepsy. He has seizures that can be severe and debilitating. He's repeatedly bitten his tongue, broken his arm, broken his wrists, and lost teeth due to the seizures. This is on top of black-eyes and other various bruises.

The picture attached to this post shows what he looked like after one of his seizures. I can assure you that it's not an isolated incident.

We’ve spent the last week trying to help him find a place to live. We’ve been able to find him a small one-bedroom apartment. However, coming up with first and last month's rent will be difficult. Additionally, he'll need all the items that typical go into getting your first apartment - bed, couch, dishes, cookware, etc.

We’re going this route because he's a good guy who's doing his best. But losing both parents, a home, and contending with seizures during the process has taken its toll. Compounding problems, epilepsy is made worse by stress which creates a vicious cycle.

We’ve personally covered the security deposit and we’re willing to cover more if need be. But it adds up and it would be nice to not have to carry the entire load. It also might be nice for our friend to see that there are people in the world who care. Even if those people don't know him.
