CCSD Children in Crisis Fund Needs Our Help
The Children in Crisis Fund is an emergency fund that is administered by the Charleston County School District. The fund is utilized to assist any of the 50,000 CCSD students and their families who have urgent financial needs in emergency situations. Unfortunately, the CIC Fund typically operates with significantly less capital than needed to meet demand.
How are funds administered?
Any child or family in need of emergency financial assistance is initially identified by a school guidance counselor and/or parent advocates. Once an immediate need has been recognized, a school administrator fills out a Children in Crisis Fund Application and submits any relevant supporting documentation. The form and documentation are then reviewed by district staff for approval.
If the Children in Crisis Fund Application is approved, a check is made out to the vendor or provider of the service. Each family is eligible to receive $300 in assistance a year.
What can funds be used for?
Emergency housing for homeless families (hotel/motel)
Rent assistance to prevent eviction or homelessness
Aid to student/families following fire or other disasters
Purchase of food or gift card for food
School uniforms
Winter clothes
Student health emergencies (i.e. medication)
Assist families in the event of a student's death
Other crisis situations as reviewed on a case by case basis
How Can I Help?
You can help my making a contribution of any size to the Children In Crisis Fund. All donations are transferred directly to Charleston County School District and earmarked for the CIC Fund.
Additionally, you can help CCSD students in need by spreading awareness of this fundraiser and the CIC Fund itself by sharing on social media or within your network.
