At the age of 6 months old, Brent was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. For the past 28 years he has remained healthy, living a normal life, all while overcoming the daily aspects associated with CF.
In March 2017, Brent developed a pneumothorax (a collapsed lung). He spent most of that month in the hospital and, as a result of the damage caused, is in immediate need of a lung transplant.
Brent and his wife Lauren, along with his parents have been working closely with the transplant team at Duke, as they are known to be one of the best centers on the East Coast and handle many high-risk cases. As recent as last month Brent and his family were there while he underwent days worth of testing as a part of this process. Despite the daunting medical and financial hurdles to come, Brent and his family continue to stay ready for all challenges.
