Help Flood Victims in Rio Grande do Sul

We are creating a go fund me campaign to help raise money for victims of a tragedy in Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul. There has been torrential rain for 7 days nonstop and as an effect we have seen flooding like never before. Rains throughout the night flooded the rivers all throughout the region and, now there are hundreds of thousands that have lost everything due to the sudden floods did not have time to take their belongings. They were faced with the decision of losing their lives or their homes. Government assistance is limited, but amidst this crisis, local heroes have risen to the occasion. Much of rescuing is being done by local members of the community. There are families being rescued from roofs by small boats and jet skis. The heavy currents are flooding over many parts of the city and cover anywhere from 5 feet to 16 feet high. This is due to a mix of heavy rainfall and broken dams throughout the region. Close to 100,000 families are being displaced in this tragedy.

A Call to Action:


We want to extend help by sheltering affected families. Many of these families have gone days waiting to be rescued in freezing temperatures inside of their homes due to inundation. Some have resorted to waiting above their roofs during rising tides while heavy rains soaked them for hours on end. The situation is dire and local schools and religious institutions have set up donation campaigns. Shelters have also been set up but there is a need for clothing blankets and small mattresses for families coming in droves. Most of these displaced families are coming into Porto Alegre the regions capital to take shelter, but many of these institutions lack the resources to house feed and clothe so many families. These donations will go directly to these shelters in physical forms of food, bedding, clothes, and medical supplies.
