Help flood devastated humans rebuild

Donation protected
For the past week we have made the decision to keep the studio closed, instead gathering volunteers each morning for our mighty Creature Mud Army.

For seven days we have been at the front line in flood affected towns like Lismore and Mullumbimby. Each morning we meet at the studio at 9am, we carpool, we go where we are needed, we carry furniture and scoop mud, we laugh and cry and do our best to help other humans. We try to recover precious memories from the contaminated mud and give people hope for a new start. This is the true practice of yoga, and how we live a mythological life.

Many of the homes we are being directed to are coming from tip-offs and requests from the community and our extended Creature family. We have met many individuals who have lost everything, have no insurance, and little or no support network. Single mothers with three children. Elderly people well into their 80s with no relatives to come to their aid. Living in these mud filled spaces, or on the verandahs and in the backyards of neighbours, trying to pick up the pieces on their own.

After watching the response to the floods unfold over the past week it is clear that the people who often need help the most are also the most likely to fall through the cracks of our government support system.

How do you claim a disaster benefit when you have no phone, power or internet? How do you travel to an evacuation centre to connect with services when you have no car and there is no public transport? How do you get meals, cleaning supplies or basic essentials when all the stores and shops within walking distance have closed? How do you keep going, when you have no clean or dry place to sleep? How do you even know what help is available, until there is someone at your doorstep?

There is a tremendous amount of goodwill being directed towards flood relief at the moment, but now that the mud has somewhat subsided what people need most is funds to get them back on their feet. Donated hot meals and cleaning supplies have gotten many through the worst of it, but to truly move forward quickly the greatest enabler for many people is cash to purchase exactly what they need today.

It is for these reasons that we are creating the Creature Flood Relief Fund.
We are committed to passing on 100% of funds raised directly to the families and individuals most in need - those outside the scope of other charities and government services and who need help right now.
We will keep you updated on exactly where funds are going, the people who
you have helped through the Fund and their stories. All funds will be transferred directly into individuals bank accounts from our creature flood relief account.
The devastation in the Northern Rivers is real and likely to be ongoing for many months to come - this is not a one off effort, but a commitment to continue to support people through the recovery for as long as we believe we can be of service.
