Help Flee Club After 5th Burglary In 2 Years
Don protégé
In 2016, Sabrian "Boo" Sledge & myself Darris "Gem Shoe" Kelly, started a high-end sneaker store out of a home in Maywood, IL. Being both sneaker connoisseurs, we built a team to regularly track down limited-release sneakers and clothing. We later grew our small in home businees into a unique, Black owned sneaker store, FLEE Club, that caters to Chicago's urban community. With this geographical move, FLEE Club was now able to attract a larger, diverse community. We take pride in bringing exclusive fashion and serving our community.
Tragically, our store has been burglarized five times in the last two years. The latest burglary occurred today, Friday, April 1st at 6'clock in the morning. The thieves made off with over $70,000 in merchandise this time. Unfortunately, our store is not covered by insurance because of previous burgularies during the height of the pandemic. As small business owners, we will have to suffer the loss. The labor and the upfront purchasing costs are extremely overwhelming for a small business. We do not have the partnerships with sneaker companies or luxury brands or the grace of a large bank account.
"The smash-and-grab burglary marks the fifth time our store was broken into, which has been incredibly upsetting. It's heartbreaking; it makes us feel so bad every time. These burglaries have stopped my business because we don't have inventory. We need merchandise to open up. It isn't a good situation for us. We would love all the help and support we can get to rebuild our business and continue giving a unique business to our community." -Darris Kelly
Surveillance video shows suspects breaking through the metal security shutters and glass. They were able to make away $40,000 worth of clothing and shoes.
