Help Fix Me Fund

**Update**

I have now reached my initial target of £7500 - thank you so much! I have absolutely overwhelmed by every single donation.

I have now raised my target to £12,000 this will enable me to do the following:

1. 4 weeks at a clinic with consultations specialist treatment, with accommodation (Russia, Eastern Europe or Thailand)- initially, I could afford 2 weeks attendance with £7500. Thailand is currently the most cost effective and has the most medical support.
2. Flights
3. Additional consultations at a specialist clinic to add in treatment using cannabis oil. At present, little is known about the impact of cannabis  oil on my seizures. There is a lot of evidence to show it helps and some to show it can make it worse. I am hoping to at least find out!
4. Flights to and from a clinic either in the States, Canada or Europe. There is a good clinic in the Netherlands, travel would be cheaper.
5. Cost of consultations and 1 week stay
6. Accommodation - there is no in-clinic accommodation at these clinics, for Adults.

If I do not raise enough to hit this additional target, then anything over my initial target will go towards epilepsy research. All my experiences will be shared via a blog, which I will hopefully get to publish with one of the epilepsy charities - I am currently talking to a few charities.

Many of you will know that I have been trying to find a way to control my seizures on and off for a number of years.

I have tried many different combinations of medication and it has not been an easy journey.  Following a serious incident a couple of years ago, my seizures have been fairly frequent. Many days I cannot leave the house, for fear of injury. Last year, I broke my foot, both wrists, 2 ribs and cracked my nose.  As I get older the injuries become harder to sustain.  The photo on my home page is when I had 3 broken limbs at the same time, from a number of seizures.

As a single person, it would also be nice to find a way to gain more independence.

I would like to try 2 newly developing treatments. The first is at a Ketogenic Centre - there are very few around, but there are some in Eastern Europe, Russia and Thailand. The diet is very hard to do on your own initially. Particularly if you require a specifically designed programme called a Restricted Ketogenic Diet - which is different to those using it for weight loss. It requires medical monitoring and lots of advice for the first few months.

The second treatment is cannabis oil. There are clinics in America that have experience and knowledge of what to use for the treatment of seizures. The UK trails way behind the US in research into this area.

January will be a very slow month for my new business and I hope to make a trip to try out a new treatment.

If I could find a way to at least reduce my seizures then I will be able to live more independently in the future, reduce my injuries and maybe...just maybe...reduce some of the medication. Which comes with some pretty awful side effects. I am also working on my own business. So, I don't get any sick days or holiday pay. With my level of seizures at the moment I would not have a hope of securing permanent employment. But being my own boss has its many advantages!

The cost of travel, accommodation, and treatment is going to be expensive.  So, I am bearing my soul to ask if you might be able to spare a little - not much - everything helps.

I will be undertaking a series of events and challenges to draw attention to my plight and hopefully raise awareness for Epilepsy.org. I will also be sharing a blog to keep you updated on my highs (not literally lol) and lows.  Stay tuned to my facebook page.
Thank you all in advance for your support whether it is financially or emotionally! Love Caroline x
