SOLDIER focuses on Daniel Krug: a heroic firefighter, father of five, SWAT trainer, amateur MMA champion and armored combat enthusiast. Daniel is also a former military sniper, with combat, security, rescue and recovery experience in the middle east and Tibet. And in the past 9 years, he's lost 11 of his close friends to suicide… and almost lost himself to PTSD.
I've shot 50 hours of footage and 10 hours of interviews with Daniel over this past year, and am deep into post-production. It would be amazing to have outside help finishing the film. The trailer above showcases each of the partners I want to work with - original score, professional color-correction, studio mix, licensed archival footage - and my very doable indie budget estimates are based on my long relationships with each party, including film festival entries. I think SOLDIER would be a film festival sensation, and personally being in attendance would be part of my outreach commitment.
And SOLDIER couldn’t be more timely. Trauma and PTSD plague veterans, and the suicide rates for both veterans and active duty personnel are outpacing those of the general population - an alarming shift. It is essential we get the film out and support it everywhere we can. SOLDIER is a story that not only deserves to be told... it NEEDS to be told. Thank you for helping me finish the film, and please follow SOLDIER on Facebook here
"This isn’t just a story about war… or being a veteran. This is a story about suffering through trauma. This is about a world of people who silently struggle through the pain of PTSD. It’s about those of us who get up, focus our sights on the horizon… and soldier on." - Daniel Krug
