SOLDIER focuses on Daniel Krug: a heroic firefighter, father of five, SWAT trainer and armored combat enthusiast. Daniel is also a former military sniper, with ten years of combat, security, rescue and recovery experience in Iraq. And in the past 9 years, he's lost 11 of his close friends to suicide, has a list of 100 people he served with who are no longer with us… and almost lost himself to PTSD.
I shot 50 hours of footage and 8 hours of interviews with Daniel throughout 2021, and wrapped the festival cut in early 2022 . SOLDIER has already proved to be a film fest sensation (with awards at both the Wyoming International Film Festival and the Gig Harbor Film Festival), and personally being in attendance anywhere possible is part of my outreach commitment. The plan is 100 submissions across the world through 2023. People power helped make production and postproduction possible. Now it can help address the urgent need for the film to be seen.
Because SOLDIER couldn’t be more timely. Trauma and PTSD plague veterans, and the suicide rates for both veterans and active duty personnel are outpacing those of the general population - an alarming shift. It is essential we get the film out and support it everywhere we can. SOLDIER is a story that not only deserves to be told... it NEEDS to be told. Thank you for helping me finish the film, and please follow SOLDIER on Facebook here .
"This isn’t just a story about war… or being a veteran. This is a story about suffering through trauma. This is about a world of people who silently struggle through the pain of PTSD. It’s about those of us who get up, focus our sights on the horizon… and soldier on." - Daniel Krug
