UPDATE!!!

Hello Everyone,

Thank you so much for all of your donations thus far. Just to update you in the recent development I was offered a graduate assistant position with the women's basketball program at the University of Evansville. Although this position will be covering my tuition I will still be in need of additional financial assistance to cover the cost for the two-year program; however, if you would like your donation to be returned please reach out to me!  Once again thank you so much for all of your help be it through sharing the links on your social media platforms or through your contribution. Each and every one of you is very much appreciated for your effort and support. Thank you!

Hello Everyone,

My name is Felicia Aiyeotan and I am a recent graduate from the University of Virginia. Many of you know me in different capacities, but I was recruited to play basketball at UVA. I had to step away from basketball after receiving a career-ending diagnosis. My diagnosis came completely out of the blue and effectively ended my playing career. This year I sought to explore my options and really figure out what I wanted to do next.

I have recently been accepted into one of VCU’s top programs. The Masters in Sports Leadership is a one year program; however, due to the pandemic and its impact on the economy, I have been unable to secure a full scholarship for graduate school. This journey hasn’t been easy, but I remain hope-filled for this chance to continue my dreams.

I am a first-generation college graduate and I would love to further my education this coming year, but have faced many hurdles. However, I strongly believe in the impact of one's education and how it could increase one's life opportunities.

The tuition cost for graduate school as an out-of-state student is approximately $20,500 this excludes room and board so I am seeking donations to help jumpstart my future. Any amount or contribution is welcomed and appreciated. Thank you in advance!

-------------------------------

My heart aches but is also incredibly hopeful as I speak about Felica and her dream to attend graduate school at VCU. It aches because I think about the difficult road that she has endured as a twenty-three year old. Leaving her home in Nigeria at the age of fifteen to make a better life for herself here in the US. I know this was a choice but it came with fear and uncertainty knowing she was leaving her family, friends, and her support system behind. Making that decision at twenty-five or thirty is hard enough but making it at the age of fifteen was more than likely overwhelming and frightening.

Through it all Felicia persevered and thankfully found her new home at the University of Virginia. She has been a treasure to so many of us at UVA and her kindness, thoughtfulness, and genuineness were gifts to her staff and team. When Felicia was diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome it was a punch in the gut to her and everyone around her. You see, basketball and playing professionally was in-part a means to an end for her and her family. As much as Felicia loved playing it was also ingrained that this would be a way that she could help support her family. The dream of playing a sport she loved was abruptly taken away, but maybe more important, was the fear for her future and ability to help provide.

Felicia is strong, resilient, loves the Lord, and really tries to see the good in all situations. She is not a bitter person and as she has graciously navigated this difficult path with a maturity beyond her years. She is now at a crossroads and carries additional struggles being an international student, but the possibility of fulfilling her dream (in a different way) became a reality when she was accepted into the Sports Leadership Program at VCU. Felicia is a humble, grateful, generous human being, and going public with this is not easy for her… but I know in my heart of hearts Felicia is determined not to let the difficulties in her past dictate her future. She will without a doubt take full advantage of this opportunity and give back in ways we cannot image!  Thank you in advance for your support.

Warm Regards,
Coach Joanne Boyle
