Help families in India with food & medicine

The Covid crisis is having a devastating impact on the lives of people in India. The medical system is in a state of emergency, unemployment rates are rising and with a new lockdown enforced, the most vulnerable people are suffering more than ever. Many of the poorest people in India are day labourers who are not able to have any income during lockdowns. These people are on the lowest wages and a day of no work, for them will literally mean a day of no food.

I want to help - and the best way I know how, is to help those who are suffering in my home village. I come from a small town near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh and the situation in the village is worse than ever. With a new imposed lockdown, many families have no prospect of any income. Most of them have children who do not get enough to eat. Some have elderly parents who need medicine that they can’t afford.

We’ve started with the distribution of food parcels to families who we know need urgent help. My two brothers who live in the village are managing the purchasing and distribution of the food. My niece, nephew and friends are helping to put together the parcels. 

Our goal was to support at least 50 vulnerable families and help them with their most urgent needs. On the first day of the project we already handed out food parcels to over 73 families and we know there are many more who need food supplies or medical attention. And this is why I would like to ask for your help.  To be able to continue to support all these families thought the current Covid wave, we need more funds. So, I please ask you, if you can donate whatever you can miss, we will use this money well.

The funds will be used for:
- Food parcels containing essentials such as rice, flour, lentils, potatoes, onions, tea, sugar and cooking oil
- Small cash allowances to purchase vegetables, fruit and milk
- Urgent medical care and medicine
- An emergency fund for hospitalisation and oxygen 

We would like to show you how the money will be used, so we’ll be sharing photos of the food distribution and short stories on the families who we are helping. (we’ll ask permission to share before we do)
