URGENT REQUEST: Help Faith Stay at Howard!!

Personal Statement
My greatest dream was to attend Howard University. Against all odds, I worked hard and here I am. I am a sophomore at Howard University majoring in Health Sciences (I am on a pre-med track) with a goal to become an internal medicine physician. I have a 3.3 GPA and I plan to work even harder to get a higher GPA.

I am here against all odds. The cards were stacked against me, but I was not going to let circumstances stop me. My name is Faith Morris, and I am from Dothan, Alabama. I have always wanted to become a doctor, mainly because my doctors growing up were my representation (they are African- Americans) and they currently still are the only black doctors in my town and neighboring counties, they both went to Howard University.

I come from a family of 7 and that includes myself, my mother, and my 5 brothers. I'd also like to mention that I am a second-generation Jamaican and the pathway to get into Howard was one that I struggled with often. Due to my family being so large and run by a single mother, a fair amount of attention was something that I didn’t have from my mother and that caused me to grow up prematurely. My mother struggled to care for us, worked many jobs and is not in a position to provide any financial help to me. It is basically up to me to make my dreams come true.

The seeds of Howard University were planted in me early. In Middle School, I started doing my research. I watched YouTube videos from students who went to Howard or currently attended. I took their advice which overall was the same thing: “Become a leader in your community; Find what makes you stand out and expand on it; Be active”. I followed that advice. In my High School career, I joined 17 clubs and organizations and maintained a 3.5 GPA. I play four instruments: Piano, Clarinet, Bari saxophone, and Bass clarinet. I held 10 leadership position, as well. In addition, I was a Black Youth Vote! Coordinator with the South Alabama Black Women’s Roundtable, working to encourage my peers to be involved in our democracy; to register to vote and to actively participate in civic engagement.

Currently, I am a part of the Howard Chapter for Women in Pre-Med, I regularly participate in Howard University's Alternative Spring Break, and I hope to join more organizations during my time at Howard.

All of this is in jeopardy because I have a balance on my account that must be paid by Tuesday, January 23, 2024, before I can register for Spring Semester. My dream can end prematurely, and I will have to return to Dothan, AL where there is no hope for me to reach my goal of becoming a doctor. Please help me stay at Howard. I promise you will not be disappointed. I have worked hard to get here, and I will continue to work hard to stay here. Thank you in advance for any amount you feel moved to help me with. Your investment in me will pay major dividends for future generations and I will make sure to pay it forward when I am in a position to do so. Thank you!
