Help Eritrean Refugees Who Have Fled Tigray

Donation protected
The recent conflict in Tigray, Northern Ethiopia, affected the nearly 100,000 Eritrean refugees who lived in four camps in the region neighbouring the border with Eritrea. Hitsats refugee camp which housed mainly young people, including unaccompanied children, was at first cut off from aid for months, then completely destroyed and is now officially closed. The refugees have been fleeing violence since late November 2020, and around 4,000 people are now destitute in the Ethiopian capital city, Addis Ababa.

They are not receiving any support from aid agencies there and are in a desperate need of help as they have no means to pay for their rent, buy food and medications. Back in Hitsats camp, they had a refugee committee representing those who lived there, and the same group of people has been instrumental in supporting the refugees after they were displaced from the camp. We, a group of people who knew them before the war, are now working with them to fundraise for their communities.

One refugee told us: “Eritrean refugees had nowhere to go and we felt that our brothers and sisters in the diaspora would have done something to help, had they known we were in such a dire situation.”

Let’s come together and help!
