I've been trying to avoid going this route for a couple years now, as I would prefer to be able to give something back to those helping me out, but I've finally run out of options. Every time I tried to set up a new project to help raise money, a new complication would arise or my Crohn's disease would start to get steadily worse to the point where it was no longer possible to move forward with my new plans.
As it currently stands, I have to go to the hospital everyday for IV antibiotics because of infections caused by 3 fistulas and an open incision in my stomach. Even with the daily visits, they're still unable to keep the infections under control long enough to give me my next dose of Remicade, since that in itself lowers my immune system activity. I am no longer allowed to eat or drink anything but water (most likely for the rest of my life now) and receive all my nutrients through a PICC line to my heart. The four doctors I see have all exhausted their resources and are now just basically keeping me alive until I can get myself into a place like Mayo Clinic where I can receive more advanced treatment.
The problem is, I'm currently on a charity program to receive my healthcare since I'm unable to work, and getting into places like Mayo Clinic isn't exactly that easy when you're broke and uninsured (especially when you live in a state like Florida that has even less options for healthcare than most others).
This is the reason I've finally given in and created a GoFundMe, so that I can start getting caught up on my medical bills and get myself the proper treatment I need. That way maybe I can do more with my life than lay in the fetal position in bed. :P
