Instead of trying to explain Ephraim's story myself, I took the liberty of copying a paragraph from Hillary's latest facebook post. It reads:
"Ephraim suffered three seizures after birth while in Ellensburg, and after flying on a plane to Seattle with me a few hours after delivering him on our bathroom floor, he began a cooling treatment that brought his body temperature to 92 degrees where it sat for 24 hours, hopefully resetting the neurological activity in his brain. Blaine and I literally sat vigil by him 24 hours a day watching and trying to comfort him in what little ways we could. It was horrible. No seizures were experienced through that process, as hard as it was to watch, but upon warming him the seizure activity resumed and did not cease as our team of providers frantically administered drug after drug trying to find a solution. A drug was found and he has been seizure-free for over 48 hours, but as I mentioned it is not sustainable long-term. No lie, one of the effects is a unibrow . . .and liver cerrosis and a lot of other horrible things. So that is our rescue drug."
Like many of you, I've wanted to help Blaine and Hillary by delivering food/care packages, watching after their other two sons, or even stopping by to visit. But I can't. I'm over 600 miles away. Those of you reading this I'm sure have felt similarly; nevertheless, thanks to modern technology we have websites like "gofundme" to provide alternative means to give. Although I can't physically be in Washington helping out, I can maybe alleviate some of the burden that Ephraim's extended stay at the NICU will produce. Any bit helps. Thank you for your friendship, love and support through this trying time.
