Help Elvis Build a Well for his Neighbors

My name is Elvis Jerez. I am a minor league pitcher for the Cleveland Guardians. I live in the Dominican Republic, and I have a farm near my home in a rural area that’s called Las Canas. They call it that after a native palm that is used to build roofs on people’s houses in the community. Las Canas is very poor, and they have a chronic water shortage – there is one local well that provides potable water to the homes for just 30 to 45 minutes every 4 days, or sometimes only every 7 or 8 days. And there’s very little water available even during that time. That’s the water they use to drink, cook, clean, and bathe, but the amount is so scarce, and they do not have the resources to buy bottled water. I want to build another well for this community to supplement their water supplies. This would make a huge difference to my neighbors. I have a colleague in town who owns machinery for drilling wells, and he estimated that the whole project would cost just $3000 USD – including labor and supplies. With your help, we can raise this money and build a well so my neighbors have regular access to clean water.

In discussing the price for the labor and materials for this work, I received the following estimates.
The materials for the well will cost $67,725 in Dominican Pesos, which is roughly equavalent to $1200 USD.
The labor to drill the well costs 850 pesos per foot, with a recommended depth of 130 feet. 850x130 = $110,500 in Dominican Pesos, which is roughly equivalent to $1,957.
In total, this project has an estimated cost of $3,157. We are working to raise $3,000 to cover the majority of this cost.
