Help Eli take part in a medical trial

Donation protected

Eli is a 4 year old little boy who was diagnosed with Leucodystrophy when he was 3. This has been absolutely devastating to Eli’s family.

Leukodystrophies are a group of rare, progressive, metabolic, genetic diseases that affect the brain, spinal cord and often the peripheral nerves. Each type of leukodystrophy is caused by a specific gene abnormality that leads to abnormal development or destruction of the white matter (myelin sheath) of the brain. The myelin sheath is the protective covering of the nerve and nerves can't function normally without it. Each type of leukodystrophy affects a different part of the myelin sheath, leading to a range of neurological problems.
Symptoms of some types of leukodystrophy begin shortly after birth, but others develop later in childhood or even in adulthood. Each type of leukodystrophy affects a different part of the myelin sheath, leading to a range of neurological problems. Leukodystrophy can cause problems with movement, vision, hearing, balance, ability to eat, memory, behavior, and thought. Leukodystrophies are progressive diseases meaning that the symptoms of the disease tend to get worse over time.

Eli has been given the chance to travel to Amsterdam with him mum Heather to take part in a trial that has been studied for20 years. The Guanabenz of vanishing white matter trial is the first ever trial for possible treatment for Leucodystrophy. Eliand his mum will stay in a Ronald McDonald house while there but still the costs of passports, pcr tests, flights and transfers are expensive, not to mention other costs especially when they are going to be there for a minimum of 7 weeks.

Let’s get this bright and courageous little boy to Amsterdam to take part in a trial that could potentially prolong if not save his life!!
