Help Don Battle ALS

On August 10, my Dad, Don Campbell, was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gerig’s disease. ALS is insidious, robbing its victims of the ability to walk, dress themselves, talk, swallow, and ultimately breathe. ALS has no cure and no effective treatment. The average lifespan from diagnosis is three to five years. Already, Dad is losing some of the mobility in his legs. This diagnosis brings many unknowns for us, the medical and incidental expenses we face could be extraordinary. Covering ventilation, feeding tubes and in-home care. Additional large expenses may include moving to a new home with greater accessibility, wheelchairs, lifts, a specialized van, long-term clinical trials, aides/in-home nursing and technological devices to offset muscle paralysis.

 My whole life, Dad has put aside his own desires to focus on providing for the wants and needs of his family, sometimes working 3 jobs at a time to provide for us. He served his country as a marine through peacetime and war, serving in Operation Desert Storm.  He worked to raise his children in the church, using his gifts to serve whatever congregation he was in.  At just 54 years of age there is still so much he has yet to do. He has always wanted to see the mountains in Montana and Wyoming, visit the Grand Canyon, and go to Hawaii. Dad is the rock of our family and it would be a comfort and a joy for us to see him do some of those things which he has sacrificed for us before he is no longer able to. Your donations will ease the burden of medical expenses, help him to fulfill his travel bucket list and build some memories with his wife and family before we have to say goodbye. Don is a husband of 33 years, father of 4, and grandfather of 4, soon to be 5.
