Help Dj get a new Wheelchair

Dj joined our family almost 6 years ago after being in foster care since he was 18 months old. In so many ways, Dj is a typical 15 year old boy, a very bright young man who loves to laugh. He loves to play video games with his sisters, cousins, and friends. He has a smile that lights up any room while finding its way straight into your heart. Unlike most teens, Dj was born with a rare genetic birth defect known as arthrogryposis, a condition which contracts the muscles and bends the bones. Practically speaking it means Dj has very limited use of his arms and legs and needs assistance to do the most basic of things most of us take for granted every day, like eating or getting dressed. . He has endured numerous major surgeries, to address his scoliosis, both hips, both knees, both legs, and club feet. Throughout all these surgeries, he has been a trooper. He truly is an amazing young man with a heart of gold. He has received treatments and therapies at Shriners and Neumours to enable him to improve his mobility and live a more productive life. Recently, Dj was able to test drive a specialized wheelchair that will greatly assist him. This wheelchair will allow Dj to stand which will strengthen his legs. The goal is for Dj to begin to walk short distances, and transfer easier. Insurance will only pay for a basic chair, one model lower than he will need, without the standing feature, which is vital to further development of his legs. Just the Standing feature will add $15,000 to the cost. We have not yet been given the cost of the upgraded features. Since adopting Dj, Kaitlen, Hailey and Alyssa, mom has become disabled with heart issues. Affording this wheelchair, and anticipating the need for a newer wheelchair vehicle is impossible without the help of our community. Any donations, great or small, will be greatly appreciated.
