Help Denise and Buddy return home!

Most are aware of the devastating impact hurricane Florence had on North Carolina’s coastal communities. I have posted pictures and videos showing the destruction throughout my hometown of Wilmington. At the time I was unaware of how catastrophic Florence was on the most important person in my life, my mother Denise Rivenbark-Garner.
The home my mother and her husband (Buddy) share is humble and quaint, and stood no chance to relentless winds topping 105 mph. For days the hurricane remained stationary over NC, devastating their home. The roof is on the verge of collapse, cabinets and flooring suffer from severe water damage, and almost a month later, our hot summer days have given way to mold and sewer issues- deeming the house an unfit and toxic environment.
In the past year, my mothers husband suffered a stroke, now requiring 24 hour care. He is understandably confused by the situation and doesn’t know why he is unable to return home. Since Buddy is retired, my mom covers all expenses herself. Costs for Buddy’s on-going healthcare ($600/week just for caregivers), in addition to increasing costs of home repairs, insurance deductibles, medications, etc. has just been too much for one person to handle. My mother is a warrior who selflessly gives to anyone in need, never asking for anything in return.
This past year has been one of the hardest on her. She works full time, provides care for her husband, is grieving the recent loss of her mother, all while trying to pick up the pieces left from hurricane Florence. As a son, I can not sit back and watch her suffer.
