Last year I found myself in the wild open space of Kilpisjarvi. The most northerly place I have ever set foot on in this beautiful planet. A place that doesn't get dark in August!

I climbed Saana Inuit Sacred mountain at 10pm and reached its summit at around 1am. With a sun that looked liked molten lava but still light!

Good god I thought! If it never gets dark here in Summer imagine how much painting I could do!

So I want to go back. For a solid 3 months to paint. That will be like 6 months If I don’t sleep.

A wonderful friend has kindly offered for me to use their camper van for those 3 months. I just need funds for the trip. This includes Fuel £2000 Tolls £200 ferry crossings, £800 Food £1560, Road tax, Insurance with roadside assistance. This I have calculated to £5000 all in.

Nature has always been my inspiration, teacher and director in my art practise. In order for me to really glean the magic and beauty of a place I need to put myself in it. That way I can absorb the essence of something and do my best to bring that onto a canvas.

Perhaps in the future I may not have such a powerful opportunity to travel this far and connect to nature this sincerely and purely. I won’t have a Campervan or perhaps even rights of passage when auto goes electric. It has to be this year!

The summer months are short in Finland; May until September. I want to go from May until August to get the best of the sunlight, ability to travel easily and no snow. This is vital to make it work for a 3 month ‘painting outside everyday’ trip.

You know any amount given to this cause is quite frankly a blessing. I haven't got this far without you. You! my benefactors and the folk that follow me and send comments in when I post on social media. You! You are the reason Im still doing this and the reason I love to share it with you.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to take my art practise to another level and make everything I have done so far as an artist move on the right track.

My promise to you! I will keep you updated the whole trip. Send pictures and paintings of how the work is going. Share with you the journey and the progress. Its moments, breakthroughs and I have no doubt difficulties.

It will just be me, the paint and the wild tundra of Northern Finland. You will get to see it unfold.

I also promise to bring back a body of work that I hope you will be proud of and excited by. Exhibitions where I can showcase the purity and beauty of such a special wild place.

I'm not your typical person. I find solace and inspiration in painting, a passion that consumes me day and night. Retirement is not on my agenda; it's just me, the easel, the paint, and my cat!

 

I have a burning desire to grow and evolve as an artist, to create paintings that are not just beautiful but resonate with the depth of my soul. Nature is my greatest teacher, and I draw constant inspiration from its raw beauty.

 

Last year, I had the opportunity to visit Lapland, Finland—a trip that changed me. The wild tundra, the purity of lakes, waterways, and waterfalls—it was special, almost spiritual. I walked and painted for four days, and I knew I had to return to absorb the raw beauty into my art.

 

Now, I'm reaching out for help. A generous friend has offered me his camper van for a three-month artistic pilgrimage into the wilderness. However, I lack the funds for the 3000-mile round trip, covering fuel, food, and ferry crossings.

 

I've calculated that £5000 will make this journey possible. Every contribution, even £20, makes a massive difference.
