Help Dean Foote recover from tragic house fire

I am starting this fund first and foremost to ask for the generosity of friends, family, and any member of the community who can spare a little.

 

Only a few days ago, my 70 year old dad had his house destroyed by a fire that started from a BBQ in the neighbouring property (some might be familiar with that side of the story from the news). Sadly the wind was blowing in the wrong direction, at the wrong time. Dad, his roommate, and her 18 month old baby were forced to flee as the flames jumped across and the house caught fire. Thankfully all 3 are unhurt (but obviously shaken). A completely tragic event. Dad tried to fight the fire himself with a garden hose while the fire brigade was delayed due to street access issues, but the intensity was too much.

 

The house is original to this street, built in 1948. I was in year 3 when we moved into this house in 1993, and the house holds many memories for us. What is most devastating is that Dad had only just started to recover from the recent floods- the 3rd flood in 11 years. I helped move many of his most valuable possessions safely upstairs to protect them from the flood last month, only for them to be destroyed this week when the fire ripped through the second level. The house is unliveable, and pretty much all belongings have been lost.

 

Unfortunately, he will likely have to demolish the house and rebuild, without official financial assistance at this stage. He is trying to deal with all this on his own, but it is more than what one person can achieve. Dad is someone who will go out of his way to befriend and help a stranger without a second thought, so if you can, please help my dad get back on his feet.
