Help Dave Run!

 

 

Hi, my name is Cheri Hyatt, and this is my son Dave Chabre. Dave is 29 years old who loves to play sports but mostly loves to run. This is hard for him though, as he has cerebral palsy and a seizure disorder. Cerebral palsy is a disorder that affects a person's ability to move and maintain balance and posture. For Dave, the muscles in his legs are affected, so you can imagine how hard it is for him to push through the day, let alone try to run! When he was growing up, doctors told me left and right that they weren't sure if he'd even be able to walk. Look at him now, 29 years later and his goal is to run as much as he can.

In the video, Dave is running track at Special Olympics in 2019. Dave can only run the 100-meter run, and that year he got a silver medal! He was over the moon after this race, little did we know, it'd be his last for a while. During these last two years, Dave has lost a lot because of COVID-19. Because of his disorders, he had to stay home and not endure his normal activities. Due to this, Dave's lost half of the muscle mass in his legs, now making it harder for him to be on his feet during the day. Dave hasn't run since June 2019, and we need your help in order for him to run again!

The cover picture shown is the Hoyt Running Chair. This chair will give Dave the opportunity to run even more than a 100-meter run! As you can see, I've tried pushing Dave in his wheelchairs that we have gotten over the years, but they're not meant for running, so it's been really difficult to take Dave with me. I've been running on my own for 7 years, I have completed 3 full marathons, and too many half marathons and 5k's to count. My dream is to be able to run the Hartford Half Marathon and the Special Olympics torch run with Dave right by my side. I can't do that without your help!

The Hoyt Foundation will help design a chair just for Dave! Dave will be able to design his chair himself and it will be personalized just for him. These chairs cost about $6,000 to make, that's where we need your help! If you could, please donate any amount you can! All proceeds go to Dave's chair and any accessories needed for the chair.
