Help Dan beat Lung Cancer (stage 4)

Recently, my 28-year-old son was diagnosed with stage 4  lung cancer. After coughing for over 6 months and avoiding the doctor because he does not have medical insurance, his girlfriend finally forced him to find out what was wrong.  It took two months to get the shocking diagnosis. His doctor have said this is very  rare for someone Dan's age (even if he was a smoker, which he is not).  Fortunately, they caught it at a point where they are hopeful and we have a great oncology team at Levine Cancer Center in Charlotte.  He is currently undergoing chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and protein therapy every 3 weeks.  If all goes as planned, he will be under treatment for another two years.

Unfortunately, Dan was looking for work when he received this news and now cannot work as he goes through treatment.  He is struggling to pay the mounting medical bills, support himself and his 5-year-old daughter.  She just started Kindergarten and is his world.   He does not need the added financial stress. 

In less then a month, the medical bills are well over $50,000 and he still has a long road to go.   Dan is not the kind of person to ask for help with anything, nor does he make a big deal about things. I am starting this so he can get the help he needs and not have the added stress of worrying about bills.

Dan has had a positive attitude about this since he was diagnosed.   As I was crying he said "Yeah, I am not worried. I got this."  Our friends and family, his little girl, his girlfriend and her boys are all reminders for him to fight and beat this.  We are grateful to have the people in our lives that we have, along with their support and prayers. Dan is a really good guy, an amazing father, and a very hard worker.
