Help cover Michael’s med, trav, rehab expenses
Hello, my name is Pam Feathers.
Also a mother of a 21 year old son, I can’t imagine waking up one morning to a phone call that my son (and brother) were involved in a terrible accident.
Unfortunately, the above scenario became a nightmare reality to a very special friend of mine, Sherry Sims and her son Michael Tew on July 18th 2021.
Michael had traveled to Pennsylvania from Florida to visit family over summer break. His uncle was taking him to the airport that morning for his return flight home. In a split second, their lives all changed. While driving to the airport, a careless driver weaving in and out of traffic (according to witnesses) struck her brothers vehicle, causing the accident. Michael was thrown from the vehicle on to the interstate….. they were flown via helicopter to the hospital.
Sherry made the necessary travel arrangements to be by Michael’s side, no doubt the longest 24 hours ever. (Think about this just for a second….. are you a parent? Being that far away and your son is undergoing emergency surgery to repair some of the most critical injuries…… it makes me nauseous to even think about it)
Once by his side, Sherry soon learned the extent of Michael’s injuries. His first surgery was to repair a lacerated bowel, his second was to repair a cracked hip using screws. His other (less serious but nonetheless debilitating) injuries included broken ribs, cracked scapula, cracks in his spine and multiple bruises and lacerations.
As horrific as Michael’s injuries were, he was ALIVE!
Those first few days were unbearable, for them both. Remarkably, through Gods love and grace, prayers were answered and Michael’s condition was stable and improving.
As mamma (Sherry) posted very detailed updates including pictures and videos, it allowed all those who love them both dearly, to keep informed and pray for strength and healing. Did I mention pray??? Folks, if you don’t believe in the power of prayer, follow the story on Sherry’s Facebook page. THOUSANDS of people (that many because if you met Sherry and Michael, you’d LOVE them!) praying for Michael’s recovery.
Through prayer and Michael’s faith, this story doesn’t end but continues to be a testimony to others.
Now on to the reason for this fundraiser.
Lost wages, deductibles, durable medical equipment, meals, extended stay facility, ambulance transportation to and from the hospital for follow ups, etc….
All funds donated will go directly to Sherry and Michael to help cover the accruing financial burden. Your help will allow Michael to focus on his Physical and Occupational therapy so he can quickly gain the strength and stability needed to safely make the trip home.
