Help cover medical expenses for Mariela Valdez

Our dear colleague and friend Mariela Valdez needs our help.

She, who has touched many in our community with her skill as a Sensory Awareness Leader, and with her tenderness of heart, is in acute need of a medical treatment she can’t afford.

Mariela was diagnosed with a life threatening case of Crohn’s Disease just over a year ago. The inflammatory bowel decease spread across her intestinal tract so badly that she had to undergo four major surgeries in the past 15 months.

There is no known cure for Crohn’s Disease but there are therapies that can greatly reduce the symptoms. However, those medications are forbiddingly expensive.

Working with specialists in Mexico City, Mariela is currently being treated with Biologics. They appear to be the most promising medication – but how to pay for it?

The cost for the required by-weekly doses adds up to $1,470 every month – on top of her other medical expenses which are very unpredictable, depending on acute changes in her condition.

This is far beyond her means, and those of her family.

But there is hope. – And we are that hope.

Together, you and I and other members of our Sensory Awareness community can step in to help Mariela outlive this terrible disease.

As best she can, Mariela continues to work teaching English and, of course, offering

Sensory Awareness. Reaching deep, giving what we can, we can help support a life that has enriched our own living.

Our goal for now is to cover the cost of the treatment with Biologics for one year – about $18,000 – knowing that she will most likely need it for many more years.
