Help cover Humphreys hospital stay for pneumonia

---Humphrey's sickness/why we need help---

 

We need your help- our favorite mule- Humphrey is very sick with pneumonia. We noticed a few weeks ago, started having nose bleeds, and wasn't acting right. He has been running a fever the past four weeks. We had the vet out numerous times and tried various antibiotics and he wasn't responding to any of them, and his fever continued to climb and his appetite decreased. He seemed very depressed.

 

The vet performed an endoscopy and when Humphrey coughed, she saw bright red blood coming up from his lungs and she could hear fluid in his lungs. He has been on antibiotics and was taken to New Bolton (Penns Equine hospital) his morning.

 

Once he arrived, they performed an xray which confirmed massive amounts of fluid on his lungs, and they proceeded to take an ultrasound. The ultrasound confirmed that he has abscess pockets beginning to form on his lungs.

 

They gave us options - we have to treat him, or euthanize him. The vet stated he is uncomfortable and this is a painful disease and without treatment will get worse.

 

Without treatment of the pneumonia, the infection will take over his body, and Humphrey will die of respiratory failure. Because of his massive size, it increases the cost of the treatment. This is treatable just expensive and why we need to raise funds.

 

Please help us save Humphrey.

---Humphrey's backstory---

 

He was pulled from the kill pen by Caitlin of Rancho Relaxo. He was dumped by the amish, they use them and then dump them to die when they are no longer useful to them. Caitlin saw him there and could see in his eyes that he wanted to live and that he deserved the chance to fight to live- not to just get shoved in a truck, and endure a horrific ride to Canada, only to be slaughtered and sold for meat.

 

Caitlin brought Humphrey to home and then began his healing process. Erica (friend to Rancho and all equines) took care of Humphrey every single day, soaking his feet in giant boots to clear him of his abscess and giving him his daily medications. Erica became his foster mom. When Humphrey was stable enough to go back to Rancho, it became aware to everyone that Humphrey had already found his home, and that was with Erica and Stephen.

 

Erica continued year by year to help Humphrey be physically and mentally healthy- she has nursed him through his keratitis treatment for his eye, his canker/bacterial function in his feet, the tumor on his parathyroid gland, the ventral edema.. and the list go on....

 

We love Humphrey and giving him the best life that we can, but we need your help. We hate to ask, but we are desperate.

--About Humphrey--

 

Humphrey is an amish draft mule, that was saved from slaughter by Caitlin of Rancho Relaxo- and then foster fail adopted by his mom Erica. We gave him the birthday of July 4th, because that is americans independence day, and once he was rescued- his independence day as well. He loves carrots and ginger snap cookies, and hanging out with his best friend Mickey the thorobred rescue. He runs an instagram account, where he tastes snacks, and advocates for all equines. (he has the best sense of humor too) He has the softest velvet snoot and loves ear scratches. He is a great listener, and loves meeting new friends, especially little kids. He is very gentle with everyone, and when you look at his eyes he just melts your soul. He is the most special mule and we love him so much. We can't imagine our lives without him.
