Help Connie and her family
Donation protected
On August 5, 2018 when most were sleeping, a loving mother, wife, aunt, grandmother, sister, and friend, Connie Doan, suffered a massive stroke. At 67 years old, she had just retired the previous summer and was really enjoying a schedule involving things she cherished and that she was completely in charge of. She enjoyed golf with her husband, lunch with friends, campfires and quiet evenings with her family and time with her four grandchildren; many of which doctors anticipate she will never be able to do again.
Connie was airlifted to McLaren Hospital in Flint, MI (3 1/2 hours from her and her family's home) where a neurosurgeon was waiting to remove the two clots in her brain that were causing her stroke. The surgery was unsuccessful in that they were unable to remove approximately half of one of the clots, essentially leaving a partial blockage.
After surgery the inflammation in Connie's brain continued to increase and in an effort to save her life, she underwent a second surgery (craniotomy) to remove part of her skull and the dead/damaged tissue in her brain.
She will need another surgery to replace the portion of the skull that was removed once the swelling has subsided and the surgery area has healed enough for the surgeon to safely go back in. The estimated time for this is a three-month waiting period.
Connie has remained hospitalized in Flint since 8/5 and doctors anticipate that she will remain hospitalized for another 3-6 months. At this time, due to the severity and location of the brain damage sustained, doctors fear Connie may never speak again, most likely will not regain function of the right side of her body, and have limited comprehension of things previously well known.
Both her husband and her daughter have taken leave from their jobs to be there to help with her care and recovery. The expenses have been building for this family and will only continue to do so, for quite some time. Please consider donating any amount, large or small, to help alleviate a piece of this family’s stress. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
