Help support Cole’s fight with Leukemia.
My nephew, Cole is 4 years old and lives with his Mum (Lucy) & Dad (my brother, Jarod) and 3 siblings, Tyler, Benson and Alice. June long weekend, Cole fell ill and was fighting a high temperature that couldn’t be treated for days. Lucy took him to the Doctors and was told nothing but a viral infection. The next day, Cole crashed again and Lucy decided to take him to hospital. After three long days of blood tests, consistent scans and various tests they received the news no parent wants to hear, your child is positive for Leukemia.
Cole started chemo therapy and LPs (Lumbar Punctures) immediately. During the introduction, Cole showed great results throughout leaving the family positive Cole was going to take the easy path to recovery. Unfortunately, Jarod and Lucy soon received the news that Cole had failed introduction. It had returned in his spinal fluid after the three negatives received previously. With this unexpected result, his Doctors had further discussions with Oncologists in Melbourne and the USA, they agreed Cole needed high intensive treatment to recovery. This meant hitting his little body very hard with chemotherapy. Seeing what Cole went through already in the introduction, Lucy and Jarod can not imagine what he is about to go through. He has just began his 8 week intensive chemotherapy, weekly GAs (General Anesthesia) and LPs, with a hard road ahead and many unknowns on how Cole’s body will respond. Doctors have said they will do everything they can for him, including discussions around the possibility of needing bone marrow, stem cell transplant in Melbourne and even radiation.
My sister-in-law, Lucy has had to stop work, reducing the family to one income. They are fortunate enough my Dad, Cole’s Poppa has reduced his working hours and moved into their family home, to be there and help maintain some normality for the other kids, so they don’t have to miss sport and school while Cole has long hospital stays and continuous care. Their life has been completely turned upside down in the fight of this horrible disease. They need our support!
We want to try and help relieve some burden and stress with the regular hour long drives to hospital, reduced income, lengthy hospital stays, parking, food, etc. The thought of having to head to Melbourne for this family is frightening. If we can offer our support and keep this family in positive spirits I would be forever grateful. Any donation, no matter how small or big, every little bit helps. Not just for Cole, who is a rare blood type (AB-) but for every kid that is going through cancer or any disease, where it’s needed.
