Help Coach Kasper's Family with Medical Bills!

Gordy has coached high school basketball for more than 25 years. He started at Guilford coaching with Mike Miller. When Coach Miller went to Galesburg for three years, Gordy went with him and was on the staff when the team finished 2nd in the state. In Galesburg, he met Aimee who would become his wife. They moved back to Northern Illinois and Gordy's career continued at Freeport, Belvidere, Durand, Jefferson (helping the team finish 4th in the state), and finally Boylan where he has been for the last 14 years.

In the fall of 2020 Coach Kasper was diagnosed with Colon cancer that had metastasized to his liver. He underwent 12 weeks of chemotherapy. This shrunk his tumors, but the tumors in his liver still presented problems. Next, he had an internal radiation procedure that targeted the liver. While he waited for this to take full effect, he underwent 10 weeks of maintenance chemotherapy.

Finally, in the fall of 2021, Coach was approved for surgery. On November 3rd, he underwent 6 hours of surgery to remove two tumors in his liver and one from his colon. He spent 6 days in the hospital and is still recovering at home.

Just this week, we found out all margins were clear, and all the lymph nodes were clear of cancer! He will have scans every three months for a while to monitor him. This is great news and Coach Kasper has a strong prognosis for a long life.

Right now, he continues to recover at home. In January he will have surgery to reverse a procedure that surgery recovered. All in all, he will miss three months of work. He ran out of sick days and is currently waiting to hear if he will qualify for short-term disability. Any help provided would be used to cover household bills, medical bills, and travel costs.

Gordy has touched many lives during his coaching career. He is still in touch with many of his former players and families. He is also the best girl dad to his three daughters Molly, Payton, and Teagan.
