Help Chuck Enjoy the Outdoors

Donation protected
Those of you who know me or know Chuck know the last thing we ever do is ask for help. And especially not for financial help. However I have been trying for years to find a way to help Chuck enjoy the Outdoors again.  I finally have come across a company that has made an all terrain wheel chair that will work for him. It has joystick controls, 4 point harness, all terrain wheels, lifted, waterproof, etc. Unfortunately by the time I can afford it I am not sure if he would be able to enjoy it. If he is going to be able to enjoy it, I need to swallow my pride and ask for help.

For those of you who don't know Chuck, here is a little back story. Chuck was married with 3 children when he first was hit by a drunk driver and paralyzed.  Despite being confined to a wheelchair he continued to raise his kids, working nights, and was always helping others others in his community. He would take his kids and others on scouting trips, would spend time bouncing around through the woods with his friends, and loved camping. And if you ever had a problem with your car, not only could he diagnose it just by having you describe the sounds it was making, he would have you bring it over and work on for you.

Unfortunately Chuck has been in several more accidents. He has also had several surgeries to help with chronic pain, numbness, and progressive nerve damage. This has confined him to a power chair, taken away his ability to drive, and pretty much confined him to his home. He is able to enjoy the wonderful things the White Mountains provide, but very limited. If he is in the woods it is sitting in a car, and only on smooth roads. Camping or the lake consists of getting pushed to the nearest flat spot and sitting there and having everyone wait on him for everything.

If not being able to enjoy the outdoors isn't bad enough, that's not the worst of it. If it is muddy or snowy out Chuck can't even leave his house. We have had countless phone calls asking to come over as he is stuck in his own yard, even when the weather wasn't bad. He is basically on lockdown all winter.

I know that an all terrain wheel chair might seem a little materialistic.  Especially one that costs this much. But how can you put a price on being able to be in the outdoors, or be able to spend time with your family, or even go in your own yard and not worry about getting stuck.

You would not just be helping Chuck. You would be helping his wife, his kids, his grandchildren.  It is something he could share/loan to others to enjoy the beauty of the White Mountains who also can't afford to.

Whatever you are able to do know that it is very appreciated. Know that the love and kindness shown will be paid forward. Know that this isn't just giving a donation,  this given independence,  this is giving memories with family, this is giving freedom. Thank you.
