Christina is the sweetest girl you would ever want to meet! She has an infectious smile and loves to laugh with her family and friends.
Christina also loves to eat, but because of a rare disease called Chronic Intestinal Pseudo-obstruction, she can’t. Her digestive system won’t move and absorb nutrients like it should, instead food causes a great deal of pain, nausea and retching. The doctors at Cleveland Clinic have told her she is in intestinal failure and the only hope that remains is a modified multi-visceral transplant, which means she needs a stomach, duodenum, small intestine and pancreas transplant to have hope to eat - and to live. She is currently awaiting transplant.
Right now Christina is receiving all of her nutrition through a surgically placed IV line that provides the nutrition her digestive system can’t (Total Parenteral Nutrition), but without the ability to eat anything she will go into liver failure, and as she knows all too well, long-term use of surgically placed IV lines brings life-threatening infections. Please join us in praying that a transplant will happen soon.
During the transplant evaluation at Cleveland Clinic Christina was told the cost would be in excess of a million dollars, and although she has insurance, there are significant amounts insurance is expected not to pay. As part of the evaluation she was counseled to begin fundraising to help cover the costs of transplant, which is why this page is being created.
In addition to medical costs, Christina and her mom, who will be her primary caregiver (required for transplant), will have to stay in Cleveland awaiting transplant because Christina cannot be more than three hours away when she receives the call that a donor has been found. After transplant she will be required to stay in the area for a minimum of 3-6 months. No travel or living expenses are covered by insurance.
Christina is a delightful young lady with a big smile and a heart full of dreams for the future. Will you please help her raise the funds she needs to get a transplant?
