My name is Warren Palmer. A lot of people know me as Chopper. I was incarcerated at seventeen years old at the Louisiana State Penitentiary, otherwise known as Angola, for second-degree murder as a juvenile. I was released on a constitutional violation of my rights at the age of 46.
During those 28 years that I was incarcerated, I obtained my degree in horticulture. My passion is herbs, herbal remedies, and essential oils. I've written recipes for people with cancer, lupus, diabetes, and more. I make smoothies, mix tinctures, and blend essential oils for holistic healing. I've studied different massage points.
While I was incarcerated, I found strength in scripture.
“The Lord hath created medicines out of the earth; and he that is wise will not abhor them.” - Ecclesiasticus 38:4
About 5 years ago, I got involved with Solitary Gardens. My interest in gardening grew and I began communicating with these beautiful people who were gardening in the Ninth Ward in collaboration with incarcerated people. Solitary Gardens became my sanctuary. I was able to keep myself mentally and emotionally well. I was blown away by the power of herbs and plants and began to delve into aromatherapy, cellular regeneration, and more. I was fascinated by how certain herbs interacted with particular illnesses - plants like ashwagandha, aloe Vera, ginseng, and rishi mushrooms.
I would like to build my own apothecary and develop a holistic healing sanctuary where I can help people in my community begin to heal. Through herbal supplements, spiritual books and traditions, plants, essential oils, teas, tinctures, incense, and so much more, I dream of sharing my passion with my community in radically loving ways.
