Help Chloe Buy Her First Car for Grad School!

Donation protected
Hello! My name is Chloe Tovar. This May I will be graduating Cum Laude from the University of Houston with my B.S. in Physics and minor in Mathematics.

Starting in the Fall of 2022, I will be attending the University of New Hampshire to begin working towards earning my Doctorate in Physics with a concentration in Space Physics.

I am asking for your help in raising funds so that I may purchase my first car as I continue to further my education. I thank you in advanced for any kindness and generosity you extend towards me. Continue reading below to gain further insight to my undergraduate career.

Research

Undergraduate Student Instrument Project IV (USIP IV)- University of Houston

For two years I have been a student researcher in the fourth iteration of the Undergraduate Student Instrument Project at the University of Houston. The program was designed to be student led, with the students carrying out the project themselves. We chose the research questions ourselves, designed and tested the instrumentation, performed the experiments, and analyzed the data. We traveled to Fairbanks, Alaska, where we flew our experiments as payloads on high-altitude weather balloons. I held the position of Team Lead for the “High Energy Particles” research team and was also a member of the “Microplastics” team. The High Energy Particles team sought to record X-Ray radiation and Very Low Frequency radio waves, both produced by the aurora borealis, and correlate the two. The Microplastics team set up ground collector stations to study the concentration of Microplastics in the atmosphere. Below is a picture of me with the aurora in Fairbanks, Alaska!

I took the USIP research to multiple conferences, even winning best poster at one of them. If you have any interest in reading any of my published papers or research posters, let me know!

Frontiers in Science- Rice University Bioscience Research Collaborative

In the summer of 2021, I was an intern at the Bioscience Research Collaborative at Rice University. It was a program called “Frontiers in Science” where the participants explored research questions that haven’t been worked on before. I created computer models, using the python program LAMMPS, of proteins commonly found in cancer tumors. The goal was to gain a stronger understanding of how these proteins interact and behave to in turn learn more about how cancer behaves.

Organizations

American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA)

I was a member of the national and local branches of AIAA for most of my undergraduate career. I served the University of Houston branch as an officer holding the Outreach and External Vice President positions. I was also a member of the rocketry team, Space City Rocketry, where I served on the structures team to help designed a sounding rocket we named Oberon. Oberon was successful at competitions, out-performing most rocketry teams in Texas.

With my time in the national branch, I traveled to California to compete with the Microplastics USIP team in the 2022 SciTech AIAA Student Paper Competition Finals. We were in the top six teams out of 500 internationally.

Catholic Student Organization (CSO)

I was a member of the CSO at UH all four years of my undergraduate degree. During this time, I volunteered in the music ministry, at Catholic Charities, as a One-On-One Leader, and served the community for a week in Galveston, Texas. I am very thankful for my time with the CSO and am reminded of the goodness of Jesus when ever I am with them. I am glad was able to serve and give back to a community that served me all these years.

The Spirit of Houston (SOH)

During my first two years with the University of Houston, I played trumpet in the Spirit of Houston. I was blessed to have an outlet to continue working on what I dedicated so much time to in high school. I enjoyed marching at the football games and playing in the band at the basketball games. I was sad I could not continue all four years, but I was grateful for the time that I had. Below are a few pictures of the band from a pregame performance in October of 2018.

In the Future

I am very blessed to say that I will be graduating this May with my degree in Physics! It took a lot of hard work to get here, but I made it, and I am very proud of myself. I am extremely excited to continue my education at the University of New Hampshire to earn my Ph.D. in Space Physics. I hope to continue researching and learning about the work both in school and out, and to aid humanity’s growth of knowledge about the world around us. I thank you in advance for any positive contribution to my journey. Any donation to help me purchase my first car is extremely appreciated and will greatly improve my quality of life and make being successful in the future much easier. If you want to hear more of my story, I look forward to sharing!

Thank you again : )
