Help Chicago Kids Climb On!

*Update below!*
My name is Lucy Campbell, and I'm 15 years old. I started climbing when I was eight years old, and I now climb on a youth team at First Ascent in Chicago.
This summer, I'm working with the nonprofit 501(c)3 youth center Slingshots to build a traverse climbing wall. I love climbing, and I want to help spread it to those who otherwise wouldn't get to climb.
Why am I doing this?
Chicago's youth are some of the most vulnerable in America, with public-school graduation rates averaging 58.1% over the last decade. Centers like Slingshots help teens hit their target. A climbing wall provides the chance to build strength, perseverance, and teamwork, while reducing stress and having fun. According to a study by Forbes, climbing is the 2nd healthiest sport.
Where is your money going?
- $2705 for a 8' x 28' wall from Elevate Climbing Walls
- $230 for safety mats
- $20 for VELCRO strips to attach mats to wall
- $505 for climbing volumes & holds from Atomik
- $200 for lumber to make a wooden frame
Total: $3460 + GoFundMe fees + shipping
This is what Slingshots looks like now:
