Help Cherry Bomb Toys Bounce Back
Cherry Bomb Toys is an amazing toy store located in Downtown Victoria, and is also home to the National Toy Museum of Canada. Owners Candice and B are wonderful members of the community, and have helped give back to the local victoria community in many ways through the years.
I have been involved in events run by Cherry Bomb Toys for about six years now, being a vendor at almost every toy show since 2013, being an exhibitor at Capital City Comic Con, as well as attending The Nerdy Days of Christmas. I support this business and the people who run it wholeheartedly, which is why I was devastated to hear that they were having issues with their building due to a nearby fire. Thankfully, their building was not on fire, but there is still a potential for structural damage from the water, smoke damage, and potential loss of their merchandise from smoke damage. They have to keep their business closed from now until an undetermined time in the future when it is safe to reopen. They also live in the same building as their store, so not only is their business and livelihood at stake, so is their home.
This business and toy museum, as well as this family, are a rarity, and I would hate for them to be unable to bounce back from this. For these reasons, I am reaching out to my local community and asking for help. I am seeking donations (preferably cash, but I am also planning an online auction) so I can present them with something when I go down to Victoria for the next Toy Fair on May 25th. I am not telling Candice or B about this until I present them with the donations because they are lovely humans and will likely try to convince me to donate the money elsewhere. If you are local to me and wish to drop off cash donations, I will arrange drop-off or pick up times. Otherwise, feel free to make your donations on this platform.
At this point I am working to start withdrawing funds for Candice and B so they can continue paying bills, etc. GoFundMe requires that I post about doing this so it doesn't look like I am stealing funds. I have no issues with being fully candid, and would have preferred the money be withdrawn directly by Candice/B, but the link to invite them wasn't working, so this is the next best option.
Once funds have been withdrawn into my account, I will e-transfer them with the money. I am not doing this to raise money for myself or to dupe people into thinking I am collecting for them but actually keeping it for myself.
I hope this clears up any possible confusion, and that GoFundMe will release the funds to me sooner than later.
I cannot speak for Candice or B, but just from the comments I have read and the support I have seen pouring in, my heart is full. The community has really pulled together and helped to raise this amazing family back up, and I really want to thank each and every one of you for your contributions. It truly makes a big difference, and your generosity is greatly appreciated.
I am going to continue to leave the GoFundMe up and running, and as we raise more money I will periodically withdraw funds and send them to Candice and B via e-transfers. This is the safest way to send the money, and GoFundMe requires me to tell you how I will be giving the money to the intended recipients (transparency is always important!)
As always, if you wish to make a cash donation instead, or wish to donate directly to Candice and B, you can contact them through Cherry Bomb Toys's facebook page to get more information. I am not in charge of that side of things, but I am able to collect cash donations in the Upper Island area and deliver them to Candice and B when I go down to Victoria on May 24th.
Thank you again,
