Kokua Chef Ed Goto!

I’m writing this on behalf of my ‘ohana.

Beloved Chef Edwin Goto needs our kokua! The generous, talented creator and chef of Waimea’s Village Burger and Noodle Club  needs help with medical and travel expenses.
 
In the past few months, Edwin has been stricken with a serious case of Raynaud’s Syndrome, an affliction that affects circulation to the extremities. This is a secondary diagnosis and doctors have been unable to  figure out the primary cause.  I can’t imagine the stress and frustration of being so sick, and not knowing why!

The Raynaud’s has been hard to get under control.  Edwin is in excruciating pain, and  has wounds that will not heal; he has gangrene in two of his fingers.   This condition has swiftly debilitated him. He’s become dependent on a cane  and/or wheel chair; he can’t wear shoes; he’s no longer able to do the work he loves. Any of you who know Ed understand how proud he is of the farm-to-table restaurants he’s built in Waimea,  using locally-sourced products and creating fun, whimsical spaces for us to enjoy, so you know how hard it must be for him not to be able to be there making bowls of Big Pho King Bone, or flipping Kahuā Ranch burgers with his crew. 

Edwin has the support of his wife, Dore Centeio, and they’re hoping he’ll be accepted into a clinic on the mainland, where specialists may be able to get to the bottom of this life-changing health issue he’s facing. Meanwhile, insurance won’t cover the hyperbaric treatment that offers some symptom relief, and costs for all of this are mounting. With their daughter Helena (Kayden), Dore is juggling everything day-to-day — the restaurants, parenting, her granola business and her own health all have to get taken care of in the margins, because most of her time and energy are taken up advocating and caring for Ed.
