Help Chaotic Forager Make Art!

Hi! My name is Gabrielle, but you might know me as @chaoticforager, your mushroom auntie, or that creative alchemist who makes those weird graphic scores and outdoor installations. (I wear a lot of hats, if you can't tell.)
This year, I'm running all around the country (and a few bits of the world, too!) to make art, study fungi, give lectures and workshops, and possibly even write the dang book you all keep asking for. I like to keep myself busy. Because I'm incapable of saying no to good fun, I'll be visiting Panama, Ohio, Indiana, several places around Michigan, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Finland (I know, right?!).
Because of all these events I've committed to, I won't be capable of holding a "regular" job this summer, though some of the talks I'm giving have small honorariums associated with them. I'm thrifty and keep my living costs pretty low, but traveling comes with costs (gas, flights, food, board), especially when traveling outside the States.
I'm hoping to raise enough funds to perform some minor vehicle maintenance and cover my travel and program costs for the summer. Here are just a few of the things you'll be helping me to do and make!
- La Wayaka Current °8N (Panama) - $2,281 program fees, ~$600 airfare. I'll study local fungi, flora, and fauna and learn about the area's unique ecology from the Indigenous people in the autonomous region of Guna Yala, Panama!
- United Plant Savers (Ohio) - I'll lead guided forays and prepare an evening-length foraged sound dinner for several participants, as well as working on the book!
- Midwest Mushroom Camp (Michigan) - I'll lead guided forays and give a mushroom lecture TBD!
- Wisconsin Mycological Society (remote) - I'll be giving a lecture about finding morels and discussing emerging morel cultivation technologies!
- Indiana Native Plants Society (Indiana) - I'll be speaking about the relationships between phoenicoid fungi and native pyrophitic plants, and why we need fire in our landscapes!
- Port Austin AiR (Michigan) - I'll lead guided forays and prepare an evening-length foraged sound dinner for several participants, as well as working on the book!
- The homestead (Pennsylvania) - I'll be driving 12 hours each way to visit my folks and drop my two kitties off at their house before jetting out to Panama!
- The Smoky Mountain Foraging and Mushrooms Expo (Gatlinburg, TN) - I'll be speaking at the seminar in September, topic TBD!
- KulttuuriKauppila AiR (Finland) - $500 program costs, ~$1,500 airfare. I'll be working on the book, experimenting with biodata sonification of fungi, and prepare an evening-length foraged sound dinner for several participants!
This goal amount includes expenses like bus fares, art supplies, costs associated with preparing foraged dinners in unfamiliar locations, and other unforseeable needs like inevitable tech failures and costs that may pop up due to the unpredictable nature of travel. This is going to be an incredibly exciting summer, and I'm actively pursuing grant funding to defray some of these costs, but I'm grateful for any help you want to give as I cobble all these pursuits together!
I'm excited about all the hard work in front of me, and I'm looking forward to tackling this mountain of possibilities, growing my artistic practice, and working on a book for all of you to enjoy!
