Help Celeste get a Hero Arm

Tax deductible

Hi everyone, I am Celeste. I am 27 years old and from Staffordshire. I have four beautiful children and one beautiful Angel son who sadly passed away on the 2nd of August 2016. In his name, me and my mother to honour Lincoln started making special keepsakes and working with people's loved ones' ashes so they have something to treasure forever as well as making donations to maternity wards for those parents who are going through the unthinkable.

I have set up this crowdfunding campaign to help me buy Hero Arm, and I really hope that you will want to support me in any way you can.

Throughout the first trimester of my mother's pregnancy she had complications but was never told on any scan about me so when I was born without my right hand my family were shocked but loved me all the same, however would worry about how I would manage in life. There was no medical reason for this. I guess I just got impatient and skipped the queue for right hands.

Growing up I was always so confident, I was taught that it was no different. I had lots of friends who accepted me for who I was instead of what I didn't have and I adapted and advanced at a quick pace from tying my shoelaces, doing up buttons, zipping up my coats. I have pretty much adapted to doing most except the obvious which would be grabbing to pick something up.

Of course there were looks, comments made or laughter but it didn't bother me to the point I'd hide away. I had the odd bully throughout primary and junior school for not only my hand but the colour of my skin also but as I got older , about 10/11 it slowly started to get to me. Once I got to high-school the bullies came in full force with the comments and knocking my confidence. I am very thankful for all my friends and the support from my family but the damage from the bullies was already done.

My friends, partner and family have never made me feel any different and I was told as I grew older I'd be the confident person I once was but I'm still waiting.

I hide because I don't want the sympathetic looks. I don’t like the feeling of being judged or being treated as a lesser person because I'm not. I will be upfront and answer anyone's questions. I’ll even make jokes when friends or family ask "do you need a hand" when I'm doing something. When I'm up to it I'll even make a funny story up of why I don't have my hand just to shake it up and see the shock, it's a real icebreaker.

After seeing more recent videos of people with bionic arms, I loved seeing how free and happy they all seem and how amazing it all is. The questions changed dramatically from negative to positive and that's what I want. If someone's staring it's not because they feel sorry for me or shocked it's "wow, this is brilliant."

I researched every logo I could see on the videos but never got anywhere until most recently with my mother came across Open Bionics!!

Open Bionics founder of the Hero Arm, is the world’s most affordable multi-grip prosthetic arm, with multi-grip functionality and empowering aesthetics. The Hero Arm is lightweight compared to the standard prosthetics which are heavy and uncomfortable. I've had 4 and like a fair few it did more harm than good. Open Bionics teach you that your limb difference is your superpower and my children are excited for 'mummy to become a robot'.

With the Hero Arm, you can enjoy technology at your fingertips. Special sensors within the Hero Arm detect muscle movements, meaning you can effortlessly control your bionic hand with intuitive life-like precision. How amazing is that?!

Those who know me personally will know how much I've always wanted a bionic hand but was always told I had too much hand (ironically) to use one. I was always left feeling disappointed after my appointments at the prosthetic clinic. Now I have this amazing opportunity to have my very own but that's why I need your help please to help me raise the funds to contribute towards buying my Hero Arm as well as helping others accomplish this dream also.

I can not express or put into words how grateful I would be for any kind of donation, help, awareness towards this journey for myself and just know you would be truly changing my life!!

It's okay to be different, let's change history!!

Thank you for stopping by and reading my story. I really appreciate your time.

I'm raising money through the The Open Bionics Foundation and every donation will help me get my Hero Arm. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
