CEANNE NEEDS YOUR HELP FOR TREATMENT OUTSIDE NL

NO WARNING OTHER THAN A HEART-BREAKING FAMILY HISTORY.

CeAnne’s family has a heart-breaking history with terminal colon cancer. The youngest of 9 children, she lost her brothers Greg and John, as well a beloved cousin (Barbara), to colon cancer.

I’m CeAnne’s niece and I am posting this Go Fund Me request because CeAnne means the world to a large contingent of family and friends. And we want to do anything we can to help her when she needs it the most – which is right now!

CeAnne’s brother John was my dad. He not only shared CeAnne’s birth date (he the eldest– she the youngest) but also her diagnosis. He died at age 69 after fighting it back for 9 years. Uncle Greg passed at only 50 years of age.

As a registered nurse, and given her family’s history, CeAnne has always been acutely aware and on top of regular colonoscopies. She never let it go longer than three years between them, despite the health industry establishing new protocols including ‘at home fecal testing’ and increasing colonoscopy intervals to five years.

It is because CeAnne was so diligent that it came as a huge surprise to all of us that she was recently diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer – metastasized to her liver and lungs.

It was just this summer that a heart check-up found nodules on her lungs. Only by the grace of God is she here with us today when preventative screening didn’t send up alarms.

HELP RAISE FUNDS FOR IMMEDIATE - AND LONG TERM – BENEFIT.

The immediate need is to ease the financial worries of living with metastatic colon cancer which involves indefinite bi-weekly aggressive chemotherapy and related side effects, the probability of surgeries and the pursuit of additional treatments that may require travel and expenses.

Then there is the simplest, yet costly and weekly medicine of colon friendly foods and cancer abating treatments.

CeAnne and her wife / life partner Meg (Vis) are self-employed and this challenge has already begun to leave them financially vulnerable as they invest their time, energy and resources to coping with their ‘new reality’.

There is another reason CeAnne is determined to live as long as she can. She wants to ensure that she is the last member of her extended family to have to go through this.
She is aggressively pursuing identification of the specific gene mutation that causes colon cancer, in her family, with the provincial Medical Genetics Program.

This will be a lengthy process, made somewhat easier because CeAnne recently completed a comprehensive patriarchal genealogy dating back 6 generations - with almost 1200 people identified. She and two other family members shared findings and genealogy reports with family in Canada, US and Italy in May 2019.

As CeAnne says, “It’s too late for John, Greg, Barbara and myself…but I don’t want anyone else in my family suffering our same fate”.

It is our goal to raise funds to help alleviate financial concerns for CeAnne and Meg so they can focus their resources and energy on CeAnne’s treatments, pursuing other therapies and ensuring that CeAnne’s family will have the information they need to never have to go through what CeAnne and her brothers and other family members had to experience.

Now that’s what we call a gift.

MORE ABOUT THIS LIVELY SPIRIT

When we think of CeAnne many expressions pop into our minds: CeAnne has the energy of three people. Give it to CeAnne – she’ll get it done right. Does CeAnne ever sleep?

The one expression none of us ever imagined is stage 4 colon cancer patient. But that is the truth Ce-Anne is facing today.

Like the MVP CeAnne has been many times on local and national softball and soccer pitches, CeAnne is doing everything she can to face this challenge with every ounce of love, strength, courage and hope she can draw upon.

We have no doubt this will include pursuing all therapeutic options available to her, no matter where they might be or how they might be administered.

CeAnne’s will to live is as strong as her competitive spirit. And as most people touched by cancer know, this will add financial and life altering pressures on CeAnne, Meg and their two amazing fur babies - Sydney and Avalon.

On the morning of CeAnne’s first oncology appointment, her niece Michelle, living on the other side of Canada, sent her a message “wishing you Love, Strength, Courage and Hope”. Coupled with appreciating the healing value of a healthy dose of laughter, this became CeAnne’s mantra and was her inspiration to create wristbands that carry this very special message:

Team CeAnne on the front. L-S-C-H on the back.
